To enhance peaceful dreams, make a blend of equal parts rose petals, lavender flowers, mugwort, rosemary, and lemon balm. Store the mixture in a sealed plastic bag for three days to allow the scents to mingle. Scoop one-half cup of the mixture into the center of a pretty square handkerchief or clean cloth napkin. Gather then corners and tie it with a sky-blue ribbon. As you tie up thesachet, say: "Herbs and blossoms bring me delight, Sweeten my dreams with deeper insight. " Tuck the sachet into your pillowcase. You can make a few extras for your restless friends. Banishing Negativity A Ritual for the Dark Moon ~author unknown Begin by setting up your altar as you normally do for ritual, making sure you have a black candle and wine or water in your chalice in addition to anything else you use. You will also need a cleansing, purifying incense and a censer or some kind of container which can be carried around your home. It is best to set your altar on the floor for this rite, but you may do it however you feel most comfortable. Cast your circle as you normally do. When you are through, kneel before your altar and light the black candle. With your arms held, palms upward, at your sides, call Hecate by saying three times: "Hecate, beautiful Crone of Night I call you here to put things right. Transform the negative thought and pain And help my life be whole again." Close your eyes. When you feel the presence of Hecate and know she is there to help you, open your eyes. Bow your head to her to show your reverence, and then take the chalice, saying: "Lady of the Dark Moon, Share with me this wine. Bring your protection to Flood this life of mine. May the waters of your eternal womb Bring change most divine." Sip a small amount of the wine (or water), envisioning it as liquid energy, flowing to effect a positive change within and outside of you. Leave the rest as an offering to Hecate. Light the purifying incense in the censer, cut a door in the Circle, and, beginning in the eastern-most corner of your home, smudge your home, going clockwise. Go into every closet, the bathroom, and the garage - make sure your entire house is smudged. As you go, chant: "Negativity be gone." Come back into the Circle and visualize your entire house and yard bathed in a peaceful blue light. Since you have created a void by banishing the negativity, you will need to fill that void. Ask that good, protective spirits come into your home and that positive energies replace the negative ones that have just been banished. This is an important step, because if you don't fill the void with something good, the negativity will come right back. Thank Hecate. Meditate if you wish, visualizing your life free from negative happenings and feelings and full of love, prosperity, and happiness. Feel how She has changed your home and your life. Close the Circle and know that it is done. Spell To Gain Courage ~from "Lammas" by Anna Franklin & Paul Mason If you find that your life is constrained by your timidity, or perhaps if you are facing a difficult and frightening situation, try the following spell that calls on the strength of the bull and boar to help you. You will need: o 6-inch (15 centimeter) square of orange cloth o Red thread or ribbon o Pinch of dried thyme o Pinch of fried basil o A few black peppercorns o A few drops of orange oil Lay out the cloth and sprinkle the thyme, basil, peppercorn and orange oil onto it saying: "The strength of bull, the daring of boar Grant me courage, now and more Grant me bravery in my life each day To follow my path and have my say." Tie up the sachet with the red thread or ribbon and keep it near you. Keep it in your bag or pocket, and place it beneath your pillow when you sleep. Every full moon, replace the herbs and oil. When the sachet has served its purpose, untie the knot and bury it. Mirror Magick ~author unknown A Mirror is used quite a bit in magick, especially for protection. What better way to send back any negative energy than to use a mirror and reflect it back to the sender? Remember when you do this that it is someone's own negativity that you are sending back to him or her and not negative energy of your own. It's very simple to make a magick mirror for protection. You will need: 1 cup holy water 1 tsp. Vervain 1 tsp. Mugwort 3 drops lavender oil 1 pinch salt A mirror of any size or shape On the day of the Full Moon, mix holy water, vervain, mugwort, lavender oil, and salt together. Wash the mirror with this mixture, and allow it to dry naturally. When the Moon has risen, take the mirror outside and place it under the Moon so you can see the Full Moon's reflection in its glass. Ask the Lady to bless your mirror and enhance it with her energies so it will protect you against evil or negativity. When you have finished, wrap the mirror in black cloth and keep it put away. Take it out when there is magick to be done and let it shine. Money Spell ~from DJ Conway This money spell should be done when the moon is full. Fill your cauldron half full of water and drop a silver coin into it. Position the cauldron so that the light from the moon shines into the water. Gently sweep your hands just above the surface, symbolically gathering the moon's silver. While doing this say: "Lovely Lady of the Moon, bring to me your wealth right soon. Fill my hands with silver and gold: All you give my purse can hold." Repeat this spell three times. When finished pour the water upon the Earth. A Simple Binding Spell ~ author unknown Items Needed: o Picture of the person doing harm o String or ribbon Take the string or ribbon and start rapping it around the person's picture and repeat: "I now firmly bind you, (person's name), from doing harm against yourself and against others." Repeat this over and over until the whole picture is covered. When finished bury the wrapped picture somewhere away from your property. First Basics Of Ritual [source unknown] Rituals are the key to success in Wicca. They are fun and they are powerful. They need to be approached sincerely and with proper preparation. Before your first Esbat it is essential that you have collected most of the ritual tools AND that you have studied and understood what it is you are about to do and wish to accomplish with this, or any, ritual. Here are some of the ESSENTIAL preliminaries and concepts. RITUAL can be thought of as the way we speak to the Gods. It works by putting us into a special frame of mind where communication with higher realms is possible. Of course, rituals were invented by people, and any sequence of actions can become ritualized and used to symbolize anything. I suppose something similar can be said about language, and about words, and that doesn't prevent us from trying to communicate with each other. So why let it stop us from communicating with the gods? Magical ritual taps into primitive (and potentially dangerous) psychic forces. This is why it is important for students to resist the temptation to rush into ritual unprepared. First, you must learn how to channel and direct these forces safely. As Wiccans we work within a sacred circle and use consecrated tools and the magical names of various gods and goddesses to invoke Powers. It seems to work. Or at least it works for some of us, some of the time. If you don't seem to be getting much at first, be patient. Some Witches take years before they feel the power, others get their heads blown off (metaphorically speaking) the first time. If magic is to be anything other than a superstitious handing down of mumbo-jumbo, we need a model of what is happening, a causality of magic against which it is possible to make judgments about what does and does not work for us. For this reason it is very important to keep a magical diary, and record the details of every ritual performed. So what are there powers? Traditional ideas of angels, spirits, gods and goddesses, ancestral spirits and so on are useful up to a point, but these are not the end of the story. Such things are only models of the powers, not the powers themselves. They serve to help us get our heads around difficult concepts and in penetrating beyond these "intermediaries" the magician is forced to confront the nature of consciousness itself and become something of a mystic. Once one has accepted that it is possible to create "thought-forms" and "artificial elementals", it is a small step to admit that the gods, goddesses, angels, and spirits of traditional magic may have no objective reality outside of the consciousness which creates and sustains them. On the other hand there is a general understanding that while these archetypes may be the creations of consciousness, such things take on a life of their own through the power of our thoughts.
