Left's Playbook -- Past the Ignore and Ridicule Stage Left's Playbook -- Past the Ignore and Ridicule Stage by Mark Meed Ghandi famously charted the trajectory of his protest movement thus: "First they ignore us, then they ridicule us, then they fight us, then we win." In the aftermath of the hand-to-hand combat that was the Health Care Reform bill I think it is safe to say we are well into step three. (For the guardians of public safety ever vigilant for Right-wing violence, the term "hand-to-hand combat" is a metaphor, to our side at least. To the Left it would seem to be another day at the office.) A ... The two MediaBistro headlines tell the story: * "Q1 2010 Ratings: Dominant Fox News Has Best Quarter in Network History" * "Q1 2010 Ratings: CNN Sees Double Digit Drop from Year Ago" Since CNN has such trouble with, you know, numbers and stuff, I wonder if they're capable of competently analyzing these startling ratings results, and fully grasping their import. After all, CNN is the same network that reported that Saturday's anti-Reid Tea Party in Searchlight, Nevada was ... Read More The Best Hour in Television History? The Best Hour in Television History? by David Forsmark Timothy Olyphant as US Marshall Raylan Givens in FX's "Justified" When I was first married, we basically watched prime television on one night-- Thursday. First stop CBS for Magnum P.I., then over to ABC for Taxi and Barney Miller, and ending up on NBC for Hill Street Blues. Other than that, it was mostly sports and movies. Tonight, ABC returns its science fiction series, V, and invades what is easily the most crowded hour of television quality in my lifetime-- Tuesday night at 10PM Eastern. If it lives up ... Work Over at Diana West's website some not too surprising, but none-the-less deeply disturbing news reports have surfaced which demonstrate that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Supreme Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and exiled anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr (photo above) are all more than casually involved in deciding the final outcome of Iraq's recent election results. Emissaries from the highest levels of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government have already met in Tehran with all of the afore-named, hoping to secure the blessings of the Shiite Muslim coalition that governs ... But now that Congress is no longer tied up with this legislative monster, I have a few questions and concerns for them to address. As a consumer, I would like to know how can the government justify, constitutionally, forcing people to buy insurance. How does the government have the right to punish Americans for making their own consumer choices? Then ... Read More From the Writings of David Horowitz: March 31, 2010 From the Writings of David Horowitz: March 31, 2010 by David Swindle The big news during Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week was the disruption of my speech at Emory University by leftists who, it so happens, weren't actually students. They were members of the Coalition United for Peace and Justice, one of the leading groups in the movement to save the Islamo-Fascist regime in Iraq from being overthrown by American forces. Shutting down peaceful campus lectures is a fascist tactic, but in a country as committed to the principles of fairness and free speech as this one it is not the ... Today that poultry- based moniker seems poised to make a return. The NY Times reports this morning: CNN continued what has become a precipitous decline in ratings for its prime-time programs in the first quarter of 2010, with its main hosts losing almost half their viewers in a year. On the other hand, it's nothing but good news over at the Fox News Channel: The trend in news ratings for the ... In fact, I can't think of the last show that kept me on the edge of my seat like 24 did during its first few seasons. Its ability to attack terrorism in a way that takes no prisoners was not only timed perfectly after 9/11 it also provided a captivating story. Each commercial break felt like an eternity and the weeks in-between episodes were true tests of patience. The 24 we see today is ... Read More We're All Emmanuel Goldsteins Now We're All Emmanuel Goldsteins Now by Mark Meed It was nearly eleven hundred, and in the RECORDS DEPARTMENT, they were dragging the chairs out of the cubicles and grouping them in the centre of the hall opposite the big telescreen, in preparation for the Two Minutes Hate.... The next moment a hideous, grinding speech, as of some monstrous machine running without oil, burst from the big telescreen at the end of the room. It was a noise that set one's teeth on edge and bristled the hair at the back of one's neck. The Hate had ... Guardiano David Frum's inattention to his employer's financial concerns, and his increasing notoriety amongst conservative donors, likely resulted in his forced resignation from the American Enterprise Institute. David (Swindle), you accept and continue to propagate an alternative narrative to explain David Frum's dismissal from the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). That alternative narrative has been articulated by Charles Murray at The Corner and Tunku Varadarajan at the Daily Beast. The argument is that David could have stayed at AEI had he simply been more of a team player who contributed more ... "Given Washington Democrats' unprecedented spending binge, this is like announcing you're going on a diet after winning a pie-eating contest. Will the budget still double the debt over five years and triple it over 10? That's the bottom line," said Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner. First of all, the spending freeze won't start until 2011. Second, the part of the budget singled out - $447 billion in domestic programs - amounts to one-eighth, of the overall federal budget. The estimated $250 billion in savings over 10 years would be less than 3 percent of the roughly $9 trillion in additional deficits the government is expected to accumulate over that time. And third, it would exempt security related budgets for the Pentagon, foreign aid, the Veterans Administration and Homeland Security, as well as the entitlement programs that make up the biggest and fastest-growing part of the federal budget: Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
